INTEGRATION OF CREATIVE STUDIOS

The nature of the process of inventing is to model the future.
And an invention is an image of the future as the result and product of this modeling.
The inner goal of an invention is always the solution to an already extant problem situation.

A problem situation arises when it’s necessary to improve a certain object or to provide it with new characteristics or with a new purpose.

This means that every problem situation includes a task or a problem that needs to be solved in order to overcome the entire problem situation. However, a task, problem or challenge often appears to have no solution or to be extremely complicated.

The complexity of a problem is usually determined by the lack of sufficient resources for a solution. It’s possible that there is too little time, space or stability. In addition, it is often unclear how an essential lack such as excessive weight, too high energy use or inadequate precision can be addressed.

The fundamental model of each and every problem, i.e., the entire problem situation is the conflict between what’s desired and what’s real, between necessary and extant characteristics, between characteristics that get better and those that conflict with an improvement or even that get worse. An example is to raise the weight of a chair to make it more stable by making all its parts thicker. To replace the wood with metal could be unacceptable due to aesthetic requirements. That the solution to this problem is not simple speaks for the existence of the problem.

And especially these problems that contain conflicts and “cannot be solved” belong to those problems in inventing that require creative solutions.

The source of difficulties in finding an effective solution to problems can be described as three negative factors:

  • a lack of necessary professional knowledge at the necessary place and in the necessary moment, i.e., "here-and-now";
  • no knowledge of creative methods to construct effective ideas;
  • a lack of psychological mobilization for a solution to problems.

Of course it is clear that there’s no substitute for professional knowledge, at least not for complicated tasks.

But even when confronted by complete and profound professional knowledge, a problem remains a problem because this knowledge is not sufficient to find effective solutions.

This is why the knowledge of "super-professional" methods in creative solutions to problems is so important.

But, even this could be insufficient because humans are not automatons. We have a psyche that can appear in a wealth of different states. Not all of these states are compatible with the process of solving problems.

You should therefore be familiar with the methods of mobilizing the psyche to solve problems, of support for an optimum level of activity and of ensuring recovery and rest so that you can use new work cycles when solving a problem.

TRIZ incorporates extremely effective methods to solve problems with the acute "unsolvable" contradictions. TRIZ supports primarily logical or so-called "scientific" thinking that resembles professional knowledge and that belongs to the space of humanity’s "rational intellect".

However, the process of solving problems in inventing requires the integration of different kinds of methods to deal with all three of the factors mentioned above. This is why modern TRIZ is developing in towards the connection of the "rational intellect" that belongs the left side of the brain in right-handers to the "emotional intellect" or "artistic thinking" that is a characteristic of the right side of the brain.

This essential direction is described in the section PentaCORE that put into praxis based on 5 creative studios:

A-studio (algorithmic thinking):
the fundamental universal models and methods of TRIZ;

B-studio (brainstorming or brain wave thinking):
the universal models and methods of "artistic" thinking;

C-studio (complex & challenge thinking):
methods and models on the basis of the laws of systems development that were constructed through TRIZ;

D-studio (dominant thinking):
methods and models to mobilize the psyche for solutions to problems;

E-studio (evolution & ecological thinking):
the models and laws of the evolutionary and ecological development of the systems of humankind, society and nature.
